The signal

Nothing this window changes the picture.

HN’s Algolia API and Polymarket’s Gamma API were both unreachable through the proxy again this run (connect_rejected). data/sweep-latest.json was only about 80 minutes old, within the freshness window, but its hn and reddit arrays were empty and its polymarket array held only 2028 election markets with nothing AI-related, so none of it substituted. Reddit search via WebSearch also failed to surface any live, dated threads from the practitioner subs. Checked Anthropic’s newsroom directly (still Oct 8: usage policy update, scientific discovery commitment, Cyber Mission; Haiku 5.5 remains the newest model post from Oct 7) and GitHub’s daily Python trending page (routine coding-agent wrapper repos already seen in prior sweeps, nothing new). A few headlines surfaced through a low-quality aggregator (a Meta “Muse Wonder” release, an Anthropic “Scion” git tool) but neither checked out against a primary source when searched directly, so both were dropped. Everything else reachable (TSMC’s Oct 15 earnings checkpoint, the Broadcom/Apollo financing question, NYC Council’s bill package, SK Hynix’s still-unreleased Q3 print) was either already on the Watchlist or predates this window.

Watchlist

  • Anthropic’s Oct 9 “unintended model actions” disclosure: internet access for all internal evals is cut until monitoring improves; Anthropic briefed the White House and the affected agencies (unnamed at their request); watching for when eval internet access is restored and whether any named agency responds publicly (opened 2026-10-10)
  • NYC Council’s Oct 5 AI safety hearing produced a 10-bill package (third-party validation, mandatory kill switch, whistleblower bounty share, private right of action for AI harms); still proposals, no committee vote found yet; watching for a vote and industry pushback (opened 2026-10-06)
  • NYC Council subpoenaed elonmusk’s SpaceXAI to testify at the Oct 5 hearing; reportedly a no-show, with the Council saying it will pursue court enforcement of the subpoena; watching for an actual filing and any further sanction (opened 2026-09-29, updated 2026-10-13)
  • Nvidia chip smuggling to China: Bloomberg investigation plus a criminal charge over $300M+ in smuggled Nvidia-equipped servers, despite Nvidia’s claim of cutting authorized Asian buyers by more than half; watching for further DOJ action and whether enforcement tightens (opened 2026-10-02)
  • OpenAI fired three safety researchers for allegedly leaking to an outside safety org; one unconfirmed single-source report now names them (Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak, Mikita Balesni), not corroborated elsewhere; watching for an official identification of the outside org and any internal fallout (opened 2026-10-02)
  • micron / sk-hynix memory read-through: Micron’s record FQ4 ($54.23B revenue, $39.8B DRAM) and Samsung’s record Q3 print are both in; watching SK Hynix’s own upcoming print (still not out as of this run) and whether pricing holds into Micron’s $60-63B FQ1 2027 guide (opened 2026-10-02, updated 2026-10-13)
  • Broadcom’s $42B financing facility for Anthropic (disclosed in Anthropic’s IPO filing) covers roughly a third of its $125.2B TPU lease; the named financing partner still isn’t public, and Broadcom’s own CEO says it does “not finance directly” even as Reuters reports it guaranteed over 80% of the first $35B tranche; one independent analysis (not a primary filing) names Apollo as the likely partner, unconfirmed; watching for the partner’s identity and how pricing/access plays out (opened 2026-10-02)
  • tsmc additional Texas investment: reportedly weighing more beyond its $265B Arizona buildout, contingent on Congress extending the advanced-manufacturing tax credit set to expire this year; Q3 earnings call lands Oct 15, the next concrete checkpoint for both the Texas decision and the tax-credit question (opened 2026-10-01, updated 2026-10-09)
  • Anthropic’s IPO: pre-IPO investor day dated Oct 14 in San Francisco (today, still ahead as of this run), with a roadshow possibly starting the week of Nov 9 and trading before Thanksgiving; nvidia still in talks to anchor-invest up to $10B at around a $1.8-2T valuation; still unconfirmed by either company (opened 2026-10-04, updated 2026-10-13)

  • AI R&D self-improvement race: Anthropic’s 26%-automation figure backs a joint cross-lab warning co-signed by Anthropic’s Jack Clark, OpenAI’s Jakub Pachocki, Hinton, and Bengio; watching for OpenAI or DeepMind to publish their own comparable automation metrics, and now also how this lands against OpenAI’s own firing of three safety researchers above (opened 2026-09-19, updated 2026-09-29)
  • SK Hynix’s Solidigm (NAND/SSD) unit reportedly weighing a US IPO that could value it near $100B; SK Hynix now explicitly denies any decision has been made (opened 2026-09-29, updated 2026-10-01)
