Amanda Askell is a philosopher and AI researcher at Anthropic who leads work on Claude’s character and behavior. She holds a PhD in philosophy from NYU and a BPhil from Oxford, and previously worked at OpenAI before joining Anthropic. She is best known for shaping Claude’s personality and is a primary author of much of Claude’s “constitution,” the document describing how the model should behave. As of 2026 she continues this role at Anthropic.
