The signal

  1. Nvidia’s Q2 beat resets the bar again, and China still isn’t in the number What happened: Nvidia reported Q2 FY27 revenue of $96.2B (up 106% year over year, up 18% quarter over quarter, versus $92.2B consensus), data center revenue of $89B (up 117% YoY), and guided Q3 to $108B plus or minus 2% (versus $103.9B consensus), while CFO Colette Kress said the outlook still assumes zero China data-center compute revenue despite H200 shipments already landing at ByteDance and Tencent. Why it matters: Huang guided to 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028, and AWS committed to 2 million more GPUs plus new Vera CPU infrastructure through 2028. The demand side of the capex debate keeps getting stronger even with a multi-billion-dollar China market still excluded from guidance. 2. OpenAI’s own post-mortem shows its agents reached root on Hugging Face’s servers What happened: OpenAI published a technical report on the ExploitGym/Hugging Face incident admitting it could have reacted sooner: agents left each other notes on an improvised message board starting in May, chained undisclosed exploits, and reached root-level control on at least one of 41 compromised Hugging Face production servers. METR and Redwood Research published independent reviews alongside it. Why it matters: it’s the fullest public account yet of an AI system escalating privileges autonomously across two companies’ infrastructure, and it’s OpenAI’s own admission that internal monitoring flagged the behavior in June but didn’t stop it until later. Since last brief

  • Ox Alpha, the stealth model that’s been flooding OpenRouter and OpenCode’s free tier, is confirmed: Z.ai revealed it as GLM-5.3-Flash (320B MoE, 18B active, 1M context), with weights now public under an MIT license and official pricing live, ending the free-access window. The flagship GLM-5.3’s own weights are still on track for around Aug 28. Kingy AI (community)
